Many young people turn 18 while they are completing year 12. But leaving care while you are finishing school may not be the right thing for you.
If you are due to leave care while you are completing year 12 in NSW, your carer could be eligible for a new payment to help maintain your current living and support arrangements until you finish school.
The NSW child protection agency (FACS) wants to help young people in out-of-home care gain the benefits of a solid education and, wherever possible, encourage them to attain their Higher School Certificate.
That’s why they’ve introduced this payment.
It’s called ‘Post Care Education Financial Support’ and if you are aged between 18 and 24 and completing year 12 or the HSC equivalent, your carer can apply.
